A 23-year-old man attempted suicide when he was in the pre-trial detention center of the Bekabad city DIA, Tashkent region.

According to a Kun.uz source, his life was saved by cellmates. It is reported that the incident occurred on the night of June 18 at around 01:00.

A man, who tried to hang himself with a blanket in a cell, was detained by the Bekabad district DIA as part of an initiated criminal case under Article 165-3 (Extortion) of the Criminal Code. In connection with the preventive measure chosen against him, he was taken to the temporary detention center of the Bekabad city DIA.

The press service of the regional prosecutor’s office confirmed this information and stated that a pre-investigation check is currently being carried out, an internal investigation has been appointed against employees of the internal affairs bodies.

Earlier, Bobur Tulaganov, spokesman for the Tashkent regional police department, denied preliminary information received by the editorial office that the prisoner had died in a temporary detention center. But for some reason, he did not want to talk about the fact that the life of the prisoner was saved, and the incident is being investigated by the prosecutor’s office.

When our website reported that the head of one of the district DIAs in Tashkent region was recently detained, and $20,000 were seized from a safe in his office during a search, Bobur Tulaganov stated: “I was not asked to comment on this,” and accused the editorial office of distributing false information, but the data are not refuted.
