On February 25, the President signed a resolution PQ-142 “On ratification of an international treaty”, the Ministry of Justice reported.
According to the document, an agreement on transit trade between the governments of Uzbekistan and Pakistan was approved. The agreement was signed on July 15, 2021 in Tashkent.
The Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, the Ministry of Transport and the State Customs Committee have been designated as the competent authorities responsible for the implementation of this international agreement.
“The Cabinet of Ministers and the heads of relevant ministries and departments will ensure the fulfillment of Uzbekistan’s obligations after the entry into force of this international agreement,” the report said.
The agreement, signed on July 15, was announced by Shavkat Mirziyoyev at a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Uzbek-Pakistani business forum during the visit of Pakistani PM Imran Khan.
In addition, the following were signed at that time:
• Intergovernmental Agreement on transit and trade, as well as visa facilitation for business circles and tourist groups;
• Protocol on cooperation in the field of military education between the Ministries of Defense;
• Cultural Exchange Program for 2021-2026;
• Memorandum of Understanding on Tourism;
• Protocol on the exchange of preliminary information on goods and means of transport crossing the state border;
• Memorandum of Understanding between the University of World Economy and Diplomacy and the Pakistan Diplomatic Service Academy;
• Agreement on the establishment of the Uzbek-Pakistani Business Council.
Earlier, it was reported that Shavkat Mirziyoyev is expected to visit Pakistan in March. Adviser to the Prime Minister of Pakistan Abdul Razak Dawood said that a preferential trade agreement will be signed between the two countries during the visit. In addition, it is planned to launch regular flights from Lahore to Tashkent in March.
