The project will help improve the capacity of the State Committee on Statistics to produce and disseminate statistical information in accordance with generally recognized international standards.
The International Development Association (IDA), part of the World Bank Group, will provide the aforementioned concessional financing to the government of Uzbekistan at a very low interest rate. The loan repayment period is 30 years, including a 5-year grace period.
The World Bank-funded project will accelerate the development of the human and technological capacity of the Statistics Committee to collect, process and disseminate key statistical information.
“With the technical assistance of the World Bank, the State Statistics Committee has developed the National Strategy for the Development of Statistics in 2020-2025,” said Marco Mantovanelli, World Bank Country Manager for Uzbekistan. “We are glad that the new project will help to implement a number of activities envisaged by this document. High-quality statistical data will help further the transformation of Uzbekistan by improving the process of making political decisions and their implementation based on reliable information about the situation in various socio-economic spheres.”
The project includes three components: institutional reform and capacity building of the State Statistics Committee; production of statistical data; improving the material and technical support of the committee and the dissemination of statistical information.
