In accordance with the presidential decree of August 16, 2017, from January 1, 2019, the procedure for issuing a permit sticker for traveling abroad was abolished and the issuance of biometric passports (international passport) was introduced. Citizens of Uzbekistan are issued two types of passports – domestic and international.

International passports will be dark red and have 48 pages. The pages of biometric passports reflect the historical and architectural monuments of the republic. In addition, the passport consists of watermarks, color-changing paint, moiré effect, metalized protective thread, laminated film and an electronic chip embedded in the passport shell.

International passports are valid for 10 years. This is an added convenience for citizens who travel abroad frequently. The international passport also meets international standards.

The following documents are required for the issuance of a biometric passport for traveling abroad:

• application form in duplicate in the appropriate form;
• copy of the biometric passport or birth certificate of citizens under the age of 16;
• military certificate or certificate of enlistment in the military unit (for conscripts);
• two photos 3.5x4.5;
• previously issued an international passport for traveling abroad (if any);
• verdict of the representative office (when the international passport is confiscated as material evidence);
• notarized permission of a parent or guardian to travel abroad (for minors);
• notarized obligation of the accompanying citizen (for minors);
• receipt of payment of state duty.

Citizens between the ages of 15 and 18 may travel abroad unaccompanied with the notarized permission of their parents or guardians.
