“In December, Uzbekistan will be officially granted observer status in the Eurasian Economic Union,” Anisimov said.

Currently, only Moldova has such a status in the EAEU.

It should be recalled that on January 24 of this year, during his address to Oliy Majlis, Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his opinion about the EAEU. He stressed that this is not about membership, but about cooperation. The head of state said that in this serious issue, the government will proceed, first of all, from the interests of the people, relying on their will.

“Deputies and senators should comprehensively discuss this issue in the chambers of parliament and express their well-grounded position with full responsibility,” the President said then.

On March 6, the Cabinet of Ministers held a meeting to discuss the issue of submitting conclusions and proposals to the chambers of Oliy Majlis based on the results of an analytical and comprehensive assessment of cooperation with the EAEU. Then the government approved the proposal to join the EAEU as an observer.

On March 26, deputies in the Council of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis considered issues of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EAEU. The meeting participants noted that it is important to pay attention to the development of the country’s competitiveness and increase its export potential.

On May 11, within the framework of the Senate plenary session, the issue of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EAEU was considered. Upon completion of the discussion, senators approved the proposal for joining the EAEU as an observer state. A corresponding resolution of the Senate of Oliy Majlis was adopted on this issue.
