During the meeting, Kelley Currie expressed her appreciation to the Government of Uzbekistan for taking measures for ensuring gender equality and promoting the broad participation of women in the social and political life of the country. She also supported efforts to implement educational programs for Afghan women in Uzbekistan.

The American side stressed that the United States welcomes the decisive changes in Uzbekistan in this field. The reforms are becoming real drivers of women’s activism, not only in Uzbekistan but in the Central Asian region as a whole.

Kelley Currie especially noted the active participation and presentation of Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbayeva at the international forum “Call to Action on Women’s Economic Empowerment” organized by the US State Department on October 23.

According to her, the adoption of the joint Uzbek-American statement on women, peace and security was another turning point in the improvement of bilateral relations. Washington is ready to assist Tashkent in developing a National Action Plan to implement the UN Security Council Resolution on Women, Peace and Security.

Kelley Currie stated that Uzbekistan has many women leaders who are making a significant contribution to the development of the country. She also shared her plans to visit Uzbekistan in December to discuss the status and future prospects of cooperation between the two countries on gender issues.
