PM Abdulla Aripov is on a working visit to Tajikistan. During the meeting between the delegations of the two countries in Dushanbe, Aripov spoke about economic, social and cultural ties.
“According to our statistics, trade between the two countries has doubled in the last three years. Uzbekistan’s exports to Tajikistan increased 2.1 times, while Tajikistan’s exports increased almost 5 times.
This year, due to the pandemic, trade turnover between Uzbekistan and other Central Asian countries, except for Tajikistan, has decreased. The increase in bilateral trade with Tajikistan was 4.3% compared to the same period last year and amounted to $317 million (export – $255.4 million, import – $61.9 million).
The task set for us in the coming years is to increase the bilateral trade turnover to $1 billion,” the Prime Minister of Uzbekistan said.
Aripov has proposed to implement the followings once the situation with the coronavirus pandemic gets stabilized:
- Holding a forum of intellectuals of both countries;
- Carrying out mutual visits of youth;
- Development of the Great Silk Road brand and joint implementation of pilgrimage tourism projects;
- Development of cooperation in education and medicine;
- Holding Days of Tajik Culture in Uzbekistan;
- Organization of concert programs with the participation of Uzbek and Tajik artists in Dushanbe.
“I am confident that the issues on the agenda of the joint commission will serve to develop bilateral trade-economic relations and cooperation in the fields of transport, energy, agriculture and water management, cultural and humanitarian ties will further strengthen,” PM Aripov said.
