United Kingdom to provide Uzbekistan with technical support in the development of statistics system and tax administration

On August 24 this year, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction, Jamshid Kuchkarov, spoke with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom to Uzbekistan, Tim Torlot.

According to the FinMin press service, the meeting was also attended by the Minister of Finance Timur Ishmetov, the Minister of Employment and Labor Relations Nozim Husanov and the Chairman of the State Statistical Committee Bakhodir Begalov, as well as representatives of other related agencies.

The meeting focused on the introduction of International Financial Reporting Standards in Uzbekistan, the organization of systems for the examination of professional auditors based on these standards, and cooperation in the attestation.

In addition, processes for public procurement reforms and ensuring maximum transparency of purchases of budgetary organizations were identified. The parties expressed interest in exchanging views and considering the experience of the British government in terms of tax administration. The participants agreed on the importance of cooperation in the development of human capital, in particular entrepreneurship trainings, including support for women and youth, development of the labor market and expansion of the formal sector, and urbanization. The United Kingdom considers technical support for statistical development in Uzbekistan an important aspect of cooperation.

Tim Torlot emphasized the importance of exchanging views and cooperation in building a stable economy while restoring development performance before the pandemic, in particular through supporting the expansion of the green economy.
