On July 24, 20 oxygen concentrators were sent by UNICEF, and the first 100 ALVs arrived in Tashkent on July 17, according to two contracts signed with Swiss companies worth $19.5 million. Another 700 units of ventilators will be delivered in the coming weeks.

To remind, the previous shipment of COVID-19 laboratory supplies for testing, financed from the ADB grant of $1.56 million, was presented to the Agency for Sanitary and Epidemiological Wellbeing on June 29.

“This equipment will help save the lives of people affected by this terrible disease,” Sindi Malvichini, Director of the ADB Permanent Mission to Uzbekistan, said. “The situation here is still very difficult. We will continue to work assiduously to bring more medical equipment into the country. We are committed to supporting the people of Uzbekistan in these difficult times.”

Earlier, ADB and the Government of Uzbekistan signed a $500 million loan agreement to mitigate the negative health and economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19).
