In the first half of 2020, the volume of cross-border remittances to Uzbekistan amounted to $2.4 billion. This is less by $156 (6%) than in the same period in 2019, the Central Bank said.
The volume of remittances sent abroad amounted to $427 million. That’s down by $40 million, or 9% than in the same period last year. As a result, the positive balance on cross-border remittances amounted to $2 billion, it was down by $116 million (5%) compared to the same period last year.
In May, $485 million was received through international money transfer systems, an increase was 1.9 times or more by $235 million compared to April. In June, people of Uzbekistan sent their homeland $621 million. This indicates that the volume of remittances is reliably recovering.
In June, the Central Bank said that the resumption of cross-border remittances “should have a positive impact on consumer sentiment”.
