At a briefing held at the Agency for Information and Mass Communication, Professor Khabibulloh Okilov, a member of the Anti-Coronavirus Staff, stated that the actual number of infection cases in Uzbekistan could be higher than the official statistics.
“Today’s indices are only statistics that we possess,” Okilov said. He noted that the number of asymptomatic carriers and those infected who have not yet been tested can exceed the official numbers.
“Initially, we had no problems with the PCR analysis. However, now we cannot satisfy the level of demand, although 20-22 thousand tests are performed per day,” Okilov said.
According to him, due to the high demand, today the results of tests are available within 2-3 days to 1 week, instead of 5-6 hours as before. During this time, the potentially infected person could be among the population, which could lead to increased morbidity, the expert noted.
It was previously reported that the increase in morbidity and mortality had led to a tightening of quarantine measures in Uzbekistan.
