China overtakes Russia to become Uzbekistan’s main trading partner

In January-May 2020, Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover amounted to $12.9 billion, $2.3 billion (17.9%) billion of which accounts for China. In terms of trade turnover, the Russian Federation ranks second among Uzbekistan’s partners with $2.2 billion (16.9%), followed by Kazakhstan – $1 billion (8.4%), the Republic of Korea – $943 million (7.3%), Turkey – $709 million (5.5%), Kyrgyzstan – $302 million (2.3%) and Afghanistan – $264 million (2%).

The main partners in the export of goods and services in the indicated period were China (13% of total exports), the Russian Federation (12.4%), Turkey (6.9%), Kazakhstan (6.2%), Afghanistan (5.1%), Kyrgyzstan (5%) and Tajikistan (3%). Their share in total exports reached 51.5%.

Among the 20 major partner countries for foreign economic activity, there is a positive foreign trade balance with five countries, in particular with Afghanistan ($263.2 million), Kyrgyzstan ($211.2 million), Tajikistan ($117.8 million), France ($27.1 million) and Iran ($7.9 million). With the remaining 15 countries, a passive balance of foreign trade is maintained.
