According to him, Hungary can share with Uzbekistan its experience in ensuring border security, gained in recent years in connection with the influx of illegal migrants.

“We are countries that pay great attention to the security of their citizens. Security begins with protecting the borders. It is the first step towards national sovereignty. We are well aware that in Central Asia protecting the state border has always been a big challenge. For us, several years ago, this was still an unfamiliar phenomenon,” Szijjártó said at the Uzbekistan-Hungary intergovernmental commission meeting in Tashkent. 

This issue in Central Europe became relevant when the countries of the region faced a “flood” of illegal migration, he said. 

“We were forced to develop various technologies, and we will be happy to become your panthers in this area,” the Hungarian Minister noted.   

Speaking in the parliament at the end of 2019, Szijjártó said that the influx of illegal migration into Hungary could increase. In this regard, the problem of migration security in the Western Balkans, as the minister notes, is one of the most serious matters at the moment. He noted that in the countries of this sub-region there are about 98,000 illegal migrants at the moment, and this poses serious risks for Central Europe.
