Uzbekistan, Malaysia aim to expand trade, economic and investment cooperation

Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Malaysia met with the country’s Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, the MFA press service reported.

At the meeting, the parties summed up the results of bilateral cooperation in 2019, and considered prospects for its further development in the current year. Special attention was paid to issues of expanding trade, economic and investment cooperation.

In January-November 2019, the trade turnover amounted to $106 million with an increase of 50% compared to the same period of 2018.

The sides identified the tourism sector as one of the priority areas for development of cooperation. In 2019, the number of tourists from Malaysia visiting Uzbekistan amounted to 4388 people, which is almost 60% more compared to 2018.

Following the meeting, mutual commitment was voiced to continue a productive partnership in education, including through the opening of branches of Malaysian universities in Uzbekistan.
