Uzbekistan and Russia plan to bring mutual trade turnover to $25 billion by 2024, said the Federation Council Chairman Valentina Matviyenko after talks with President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

“We see the genuine interest of Uzbek colleagues to deepen economic cooperation. Mutual trade has grown significantly. Last year, this figure was $4.4 billion. The task was set to bring it up to 10 billion in the coming years, and to $25 billion by 2024,” she said. According to her, this is “a very difficult task, but can be implemented.”

Matviyenko stressed that she was impressed by the positive changes that have taken place in Uzbekistan over the past three years, real achievements in various fields.

“This is a country where serious economic reforms, reforms in the education system, and health care have taken place,” said Matviyenko, adding that salaries for teachers, doctors, faculty have been increased, new schools and kindergartens are being built.

The head of the Federation Council said that the president of Uzbekistan once again confirmed his interest in promoting and developing relations between the two states.

“During these three years, the Russian-Uzbek relations have strengthened significantly,” Matviyenko emphasized.
