Rosatom head Alexey Likhachev to take part in opening ceremony of MEPhI branch in Tashkent

The head of the Rosatom State Corporation Alexey Likhachev will arrive in Tashkent on September 3 for the opening ceremony of the National Research Nuclear University MEPhI (Moscow Engineering Physics Institute) branch in Tashkent.

“Likhachev confirmed his participation. The Uzbek side has not yet completely decided who else will come to the opening ceremony,” the UzAtom agency said. 

The MEPhI branch will be opened on the territory of the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Academy of Sciences in the village of Ulugbek. Recently, the IAEA Deputy Director General Mikhail Chudakov visited the construction site.

Admission of applicants and certification of graduates of the branch will be carried out in accordance with the requirements, procedure and terms determined by the head office in Moscow. Upon graduation, the branch graduates will receive a Russian diploma, which will be recognized in Uzbekistan.

Education at the university for all students will be offered free of charge based on state grants. All graduates will have to work at least for five years in the organizations of the country’s industrial sector.

The new branch will be specialized in training highly qualified engineering-technical personnel at the level of international educational standards, as well as conducting fundamental and applied scientific research in the field of nuclear physics.
