On July 15, 2019, Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov met with the newly appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan Ahmad Khalid Elmi, the MFA press service said.
Accepting copies of his credentials, the Minister warmly welcomed the Ambassador and expressed confidence that the Uzbek-Afghan ties will be further strengthened and expanded through joint efforts.
During the conversation, topical issues of bilateral relations were discussed.
The parties confirmed their interest in building up political, trade-economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation and the participation of Uzbekistan in implementing infrastructure as well as socio-economic projects in Afghanistan.
Special attention was paid to the peaceful settlement of the long-term conflict in Afghanistan.
The Ambassador, on behalf of President Muhammad Ashraf Ghani, conveyed deep appreciation to President Shavkat Mirziyoyev for his continued support of Afghanistan and thanked the Uzbek side for the significant contribution to the launch of the mechanisms for inter-Afghan dialogue, which was given considerable impetus last March at the International Conference on Afghanistan held in Tashkent.
The sides also exchanged views on the agenda and schedule of upcoming joint events, including the first session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation, which is planned to be organized in the capital city of Uzbekistan.
