The city of Bekabad in the Tashkent region joined the “Angren” free economic zone. The relevant resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers on additional measures to revitalize the “Angren” FEZ was adopted on June 25. This is done to attract foreign investment and create high-tech industries, jobs and increase the income of city residents.

The document says that the proposal came from the administration of the Tashkent region, the Ministry of Economy and Industry, as well as the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade. It is noted that the administration of the Tashkent region worked out investment projects worth $24.5 million for implementation in the “Angren” FEZ.

Projects for development of engineering-communication and production infrastructure of the “Angren” FEZ in the affiliated territory will be included in the Investment Program of Uzbekistan for 2020-2021.

The fact that Bekabad would be a part of the “Angren” FEZ was reported in October 2018, when a project on measures to create the most favorable conditions for developing the economic potential of the city was published.

At that time, the proposal was explained by the fact that it would help ensure the comprehensive and effective use of the city’s potential based on deep processing of mineral resources, expanding the output in demand on foreign markets, as well as import-substituting products with high added value.
