Natural gas production in Tajikistan is insignificant against the background of its imports from neighboring Uzbekistan.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan, since the beginning of this year, only 265.5 thousand cubic meters of gas have been produced in the country. This figure is 35.2% less compared to January-April last year, Avesta reports.
Meanwhile, the amount of imports of natural gas from neighboring Uzbekistan during this period amounted to over $8.1 million. Tajik gas distribution company JSC Tajiktransgaz does not provide data on the volume of imports of natural gas and prices for it.
It should be recalled that last year the republic received almost 54 million cubic meters of Uzbek gas. More than two dozen enterprises are supplied with imported gas, including the Tajik Aluminum Company.
Earlier it was reported that Tajikistan plans this year to increase the supply of natural gas from Uzbekistan four times.
Shavkat Shoimzoda, First Deputy Head of Tajiktransgaz, at a press conference in Dushanbe on January 28 said that Tajiktransgaz intends to purchase up to 200 million cubic meters of natural gas from Uzbekistan this year.
