On May 20, Ambassador of Uzbekistan to Saudi Arabia Ulugbek Maksudov met with the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) Group Bandar Hajjar in Jeddah, the press service of the Foreign Ministry said.
During the meeting, the current state of relations between Uzbekistan and the IDB, prospect for their development, cooperation in implementation of large-scale joint projects in socio-economic direction were discussed.
It was noted that the meeting of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev with the President of the IDB Bandar Hajjar in September 2018 in Tashkent, the signing of document on Strategic Partnership for 2018-2021 worth $1.3 billion have taken the mutually beneficial cooperation to a new level.
Bandar Hajjar expressed gratitude to the leadership of Uzbekistan for decision on accession of the country to the Islamic Corporation for the Insurance of Investment and Export Credit (ICIEC) and International Islamic Trade Finance Corporation (ITFC), which will open further opportunities for effective implementation of the Partnership Strategy with Uzbekistan for 2018-2021.
IDB President confirmed the participation of the bank’s delegation in the upcoming high-level meeting of foreign investors’ council in June 2019, in Tashkent.
Bandar Hajjar spoke in favor of actively developing the bank’s cooperation with Uzbekistan in the areas of promoting science, technology and innovation. In this context, the IDB President noted that at present, the bank’s specialists are preparing videos about the life and work of the great ancestors of the Uzbek people, such as Imam al-Bukhari and Abu Ali Ibn Sino. According to the head of the IDB, joint efforts in this direction and the organization of premiere shows of these videos on prestigious international TV channels will help promote true Islamic values and present the contribution of Islamic scholars to world science.
