For the first time, pomegranates from Uzbekistan appeared on the shelves of Rungis – largest market in France, news agency Dunyo reports.
Rungis, the largest food and logistics center in France, spreads over an area of 234 hectares. It daily sells 16 million tons of fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, dairy products and plants.
The company Commercial Fruits became an importer of the first batch of pomegranates. According to the director of the company Gabriel Bruno, for 25 years they have bought pomegranates from Peru and the United States, but now they have access to the Uzbek market:
“Uzbekistan is a new direction in our market. Despite this fact, we are pleasantly surprised by the timely and high-quality delivery to such a long distance,” Bruno said.
According to the chairman of the Uzbek-French trading house “UzFranceTrade” Khaled Bedaush, the delivery was preceded by several months of joint work. The owner of a chain of stores “Paris Royal” Wissem Gouzha noted that a pomegranate from Uzbekistan is in demand.
Dildora Atajanova, CEO of Theodora Group, which imports products to Europe, said that the main difference in the French market is packaging: each box should be of equal weight and special attention should be paid to the fruit packaging process.
“Along with this, maintaining the required temperature during collecting, cooling, calibration and shipment plays a big role in organizing the shipment of products to the European market,” Ms. Atajanova said.
Earlier, it as reported that Kazakhstan temporarily banned the import of pomegranates from Uzbekistan. The reason was that recently dangerous pests have been found in pomegranates.
