In 2018, Uzbekistan sold gold for $2.9 billion, according to data from the State Committee on Statistics.
Gold has become one of the main export items. For example, ferrous and non-ferrous metals sold for $1.1 billion, textile products for $1.6 billion, and food products for $1 billion in 2018.
Despite this, the total volume of exported gold was 89.2% of the corresponding period last year.
In 2000, Uzbekistan sold gold for $554.2 million, in 2005 for $1.1 billion, in 2010 for $2.6 billion, and in 2015 - $1.9 billion. The State Statistics Committee provides information only on amounts, but not on volumes.
In the fall of 2018, Uzbekistan suspended the export of gold, which made it possible to increase the country's reserves in gold. At the beginning of the year, it became known that information about mined and sold gold would cease to be confidential.
