Uzbekistan to establish Space Research and Technology Agency

Uzbekistan plans to create "Uzbekcosmos", a Space Research and Technology Agency, in the near future, Kun.uz correspondent reports with reference citing the draft decree of the head of state.

Among the main tasks of the new structure are the preparation of proposals on priority areas of state policy in the field of space activities, the development and implementation of state programs for the development of the space industry, the organization of a system of training, retraining and advanced training of personnel, including in leading foreign institutions.

In addition, the agency will be responsible for the preparation and implementation of comprehensive measures for the development of infrastructure of the space industry, space research and technology, research and development, experimental design and innovative work, and the implementation of international cooperation in the field of space research and technology.

In accordance with the document, the government of Uzbekistan will develop and submit a draft law on space activities to the Legislative Chamber of Parliament by February 1, 2019.

At the same time, the “Uzbekcosmos” agency should prepare a draft Concept for the development of the space industry for 2019-2029 by December 20, 2018, and by November 1, 2019, a draft State program for the development of the space industry for 2019-2029, as well as a set of measures to ensure the implementation of the Concepts and Programs.

It will set an integrated vision and strategic objectives for the implementation of priority areas for the development of the space industry, the construction of space industry facilities and the corresponding infrastructure using modern advanced technologies that ensure a high level of industrial and environmental safety.

The documents should also reflect the issue of training specialists in higher educational institutions and training centers of Uzbekistan and abroad.
