On Oct. 18-19, 2018, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin paid a state visit to Uzbekistan at the invitation of President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
During the visit, 20 documents in various fields were signed to develop mutual cooperation.
Mr. Mirziyoyev and Mr. Putin launched the project to build the first-ever nuclear power plant in Uzbekistan by pressing a symbolic button. The plant will consist of 2 energy blocks utilizing a water-cooled power reactor with a total capacity of 2.4 gigawatts. Operation of the nuclear power plant will contribute to save large quantities of natural gas, reduce carbon dioxide emissions to 14 million tons and nitrogen oxides to 36,000 tons per year.
In relation with Vladimir Putin’s visit to Uzbekistan, the first Uzbek-Russian interregional forum was held in Tashkent with the participation of government officials and business circles of the two countries. It is reported that 785 bilateral agreements and accords worth $27,1 billion were signed at the meeting.
In particular, 600 deals worth $ 1,76 billion in trade and economic spheres, 185 agreements worth $25,3 billion in investment projects were inked.
As per the result of agreements, 79 joint ventures, 23 new trade houses and 20 wholesale trade centers will be established in Uzbekistan on bilateral basis.
Also, 242 contracts worth $1,2 billion for trade and economic cooperation and 136 contracts worth $1,4 billion for the implementation of investment projects were signed within the framework of the talks.
Mr. Mirziyoyev said that the volume of trade turnover this year will reach $6 billion and the main task is to achieve $10 billion trade turnover in the coming years.
During the first Education Forum titled "New Staff for New Economy", which was attended by heads of higher educational institutions of both sides, more than 100 agreements were signed on cooperation in the field of education and science, including the opening of branches of leading Russian higher educational institutions in Uzbekistan.
The rectors of 82 Russian and several Uzbek universities attended the forum.
About 100 Russian journalists and technicians from 27 media outlets participated to disclose the Russian delegation’s visit.
In addition, about 150 representatives of local media participated in the full scope of events.
