Uzbek President hosts heads of defense departments of the CIS member states

On Oct. 12, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev hosted the heads of defense departments of the CIS member states, who arrived in our country to attend the meeting of the Council of CIS Defense Ministers.

The meeting was attended by the Minister of Defense Z. Hasanov of Azerbaijan, the Minister of Defense of Armenia D. Tonoyan, the Minister of Defense of Belarus A. Ravkov, the Minister of Defense of Kazakhstan N. Ermekbayev, the Minister of Defense of Russia S. Shoigu, the Minister of Defense of Tajikistan Sh. Mirzo, Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Kyrgyzstan R. Duyshenbiev and the CIS Secretary of the Council of Ministers of Defense Y. Dashkin.

Welcoming the heads of delegations, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan noted with satisfaction that Tashkent is hosting the meeting of the CIS Council of Ministers of Defense for the first time and this is the evidence of the new stage in our country's participation in the CIS’s activities

Over the past year, Uzbekistan joined more than 10 sectorial cooperation bodies in such areas as economics, energy, science and innovation, combatting organized crime and others.

During the meeting, issues of further expansion of military and military-technical cooperation within the framework of the CIS, including inter-agency partnerships, bilateral and multilateral activities, and professional training of military personnel were discussed.

An exchange of views on topical issues of international and regional politics, including security and stability, was also held.

The heads of the defense departments of the CIS countries expressed deep gratitude to the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for the warm welcome and conveyed greetings and best wishes on behalf of the heads of their states. The large-scale reforms in Uzbekistan to modernize the Armed Forces and strengthen the country's defense capability, as well as the republic’s initiatives to ensure security, stability and sustainable development in the region, were highly appreciated.
