"At the beginning of September, hydrogen sulfide gas began leaking from the 'Mustaqillik-25' mine, and now the extinguishing process at well No. 604 has been completed.
For this purpose, an additional block of equipment was built and installed to prevent the leak. The wellhead was prepared and secured for the extinguishing process. The well was sealed and extinguished.
The planned mitigation of the incident was carried out under the supervision of a specially organized headquarters. Experts from Uzbekistan, Russia, and the USA visited the site to professionally assess the situation.
It should be noted that there was no danger to the population during the elimination of the incident's consequences," the report said.
All necessary measures were implemented in cooperation with Uzbekistan’s militarized unit for the prevention and elimination of open oil and gas fountains, the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Uzbekistan, and the State Inspection of Industrial Safety (Sanoatkontekhnazorat).
It was noted that the work was carried out with full provision of all required equipment and tools.
"From the very beginning of the incident, all necessary measures were taken. Specifically, special posts were set up to monitor and measure air quality in nearby settlements. Analyses have shown that no harmful substances exceeded the permissible maximum concentration in the atmosphere.
In addition, the cleaning of the drilling rig's working area was carried out and completed, and the support site was prepared for the installation and operation of specialized equipment.
We also add that the development of the 'Mustaqillik-25' mine is particularly complex, utilizing international expertise and reinforced safety measures, including constant guidance for staff. The extraction of hydrocarbons is becoming increasingly complex, requiring new experience and skills," the report said.
On September 1, during drilling operations at well No. 604 of the 'Mustaqillik-25' mine, located in the "Kolqomish" neighborhood of Boysun district in Surkhandarya, hydrogen sulfide gas began leaking due to a technological malfunction.
On the night of September 2, the Ministry of Emergency Situations announced that the population near the well had been evacuated, the situation was fully under control, and there was no cause for panic. Furthermore, based on the instructions of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, a group of officials, including Deputy Prime Minister Achilbay Ramatov, arrived at the scene.
In the following days, no official information was provided regarding the situation at the mine and the well. It took more than two weeks to stop the gas leakage.
