Ravshan Khujanov, an expert in the energy field, expressed his opinion in an interview with Kun.uz about the need to allow the population to objectively assess the situation in the field by increasing transparency in the energy system of Uzbekistan.

“In order to properly explain the real situation to the population, all the costs of the delivered electricity in the chain from A to Z should be shown. If our people see the transparent figures, they will positively assess it.

Regarding the abstract thing, it is possible to say that “perhaps the price of electricity is 100 soums”. These things should be gradually disclosed.

If I’m not mistaken, the last time electricity prices increased was in 2019. Due to some reasons, including the pandemic, prices did not rise. It would cost about 600 soums now if the price was increased in the usual way every year. If the price of electricity is cheap, then people won’t care much about saving it,” Khujanov said.

It should be recalled that last week the Minister of Energy Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov said that the cost of 1 kWh of electricity, which is supplied to the population at 295 soums, costs around 800 soums.

“The price of imported technological equipment and other products is increasing. But as a result of unchanged tariffs, the electricity is supplied to the population at 295 soums and to legal entities at 450 soums. The real price of electricity is 800 soums. So, the remaining part of the cost is being subsidized from the state budget,” the minister said.
