During the meeting of Uzbek diplomats with the Vice-President of the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland (RAS) Barbara Brand, an exchange of views took place on the development of cooperation between research institutes and relevant state organizations of Uzbekistan with RAS through the implementation of joint projects, a Dunyo correspondent reports.
The meeting was also attended by the administrative director of the society, Alison Ohta, and the director of the RAS library, Edward Wich.
For diplomats, an exposition of individual manuscripts of the 11th-16th centuries relating to the history of Uzbekistan was organized, including a copy of Firdousi’s Shakhnoma, made for the Timurid prince Muhammad Juka.
As promising areas of interaction, the British side noted the provision of Uzbek experts with access to the society’s collections of manuscripts for scientific research, the digitization of manuscripts of interest to research centers in Uzbekistan, online seminars and other joint work.
It should be noted that the Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, founded in 1823, is one of the authoritative British cultural organizations that conducts research and international events in the field of science, literature and art dedicated to the countries of Asia. The society includes 13 Asian societies of foreign countries.
