In 2022, two tenders will be announced for the creation of power plants operating from renewable sources, Spot reports referring to the Ministry of Energy.

In total, two objects are planned within their framework. The total capacity of the future stations will be 300 MW.

In particular, a tender will be announced to select investors for the construction of a 200 MW wind farm in Karakalpakstan. There will also be a tender for the creation of a 100 MW solar power plant in the Fergana region.

A few days earlier, the Ministry of Energy announced a tender for the construction of a solar power plant in Kashkadarya. The capacity of the station, planned under a joint program with ADB, will be 300 MW.

According to the investment program for 2022-2026, 16 new power plants will be built in Uzbekistan at the expense of foreign direct investment, 9 of them – from renewable energy sources. Their capacity will be 2,797 MW, and the cost – $6.5 billion.

Development of renewable energy in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is actively developing “green” energy, it is a quick and environmentally friendly solution to the energy deficit. The President instructed to accelerate the development of the industry and bring its total capacity to 8 GW by 2026.

The first industrial photovoltaic power plant in Uzbekistan was put into operation in August last year in the Navoi region. A number of similar facilities are currently being built across the country.

Solar panels are also installed in settlements and on rooftops in Namangan and Karakalpakstan. Enterprises such as the Mubarek Gas Processing Plant are also launching their own solar power plants.

It is becoming cheaper to provide a house with renewable energy – according to the calculations of the Ministry of Energy, a block of 2 kW photo panels together with the installation will cost 18-30 million soums. The state budget will compensate part of the costs of installing them, and will also provide a number of benefits.

In addition, owners of such installations can generate additional income by selling the generated electricity to local grids. The first such agreement was signed in early November.
