In January-March 2020, the foreign trade turnover (FTT) of Uzbekistan amounted to $8.1 billion, which is less by $924.1 million (10.2%) compared to the corresponding period of 2019.
According to the State Statistics Committee, the coronavirus pandemic, which has now spread to almost all countries of the world, has led to a decrease in international integration and the closure of state borders. This has a direct impact on the country’s foreign trade and living standards.
Exports in the FTT amounted to $3.3 billion (down by 10.9%) and imports – to $4.7 billion (down by 9.7%). During the reporting period, a passive foreign trade balance of $1.3 billion was recorded.
Uzbekistan has trade relations with more than 150 countries. The relatively significant share of FTT falls on the Russian Federation (16.9%), the People’s Republic of China (16.8%), Kazakhstan (8.3%), the Republic of Korea (6.7%), Turkey (5.8%) and the Kyrgyz Republic (2.3%) and Germany (2.1%).
In terms of foreign economic activity, there is an active foreign trade balance with seven countries: Afghanistan ($151.1 million), Kyrgyzstan ($121.2 million), Tajikistan ($78.8 million), Turkey ($62.3 million), Iran ($16.4 million), the UAE ($15.7 million) and France ($10.1 million).
In January-March 2020, the share of CIS countries in foreign trade turnover amounted to 36.2%, an increase of 2.5% over the previous year.
