As of the end of January-February 2020, foreign trade turnover (FTT) of Uzbekistan amounted to $5.9 billion and decreased by $190 million compared to the same period last year.
According to the State Statistics Committee, exports reached $2.6 billion (declined by 4.2%) and imports reached $3.2 billion (declined by 2.2%). In the reporting period, a passive foreign trade balance in the amount of $657.5 million was recorded.
Uzbekistan has established trade relations with more than 145 countries of the world. The largest share of FTT falls on the People’s Republic of China (16.6%), the Russian Federation (16.1%), Kazakhstan (7.0%), the Republic of Korea (6.3%), Turkey (5.3%), Germany (1.8%) and Kyrgyzstan (1.7%).
FTT with neighboring Kazakhstan and the Kyrgyz Republic has undergone significant changes in recent years. Foreign trade turnover with Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan has increased over the past three years.
Active foreign trade balances have been observed in 6 countries out of the top 20 major foreign trade partners, including Afghanistan ($99.4 million), Kyrgyzstan ($60.4 million), Tajikistan ($49.6 million) and Iran ($16.8 million). The remaining 14 countries maintain a passive foreign trade balance.
