The government of Uzbekistan and the World Bank (WB) signed an agreement on advisory services. The aim is to provide assistance in the modernization of civil aviation in the country.

“This is the second agreement between the parties. According to the preliminary agreement, the bank completed consulting services in August 2019,” the WB press service said.

The new agreements include assistance from the World Bank to the Uzbek government in developing national civil aviation policy and development strategies for various segments. This process will be carried out in close cooperation with the Transport Ministry of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Civil Aviation Agency, Uzbekistan Airways, Uzbekistan Airports JSC and other interested ministries and agencies.

“Safe, reliable and effective aviation is an important factor in the development of trade, business and tourism in the country. We support cooperation with the government in this area. I am convinced that our relationship will contribute to the further growth and development of the Uzbek economy,” WB Country Manager for Uzbekistan Hideki Mori said.

Since the implementation of the reform program in 2017, the World Bank has been expanding financial and technical assistance to Uzbekistan. Currently, the bank’s investment portfolio in the country is estimated at $3.5 billion. The structure contributes to the development of macroeconomics, agriculture, energy, transport, health, education, water supply and sanitation, social protection, urban and rural infrastructure on the basis of 21 existing projects.
