Uzbekistan started issuing co-branded Uzcard-Mir cards. The first domestic card issuer was Aloqabank, Spot reports.
Uzcard and Mir agreed on acquiring cards of the Russian system and issuing co-branded cards in March this year. Then it was reported that this creates the possibility of using Mir cards in Uzbekistan.
Co-branded card combines the capabilities of two payment systems. It can be used both in Uzbekistan and abroad. For example, in the country the calculation is carried out in soums, and in Russia – in rubles.
This is the second joint card project of Uzcard – the first was launched with the Chinese UnionPay in 2018. Then the first was also Aloqabank. The bank said that since the first issue in October 2018, over 55,000 cards have been issued.
