On the sidelines of the Kuala Lumpur Summit, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiyev held a meeting with the Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia Darell Leiking, and attended a roundtable with participation of more than 20 Malaysian companies operating in the petrochemical, electrical, energy, pharmaceutical and food industries, as well as in the field of banking, financial and ICT services, the MFA press services reports.

During the events, the Malaysian side was provided with extensive information on large-scale economic reforms carried out under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev aimed at liberalizing the monetary policy, creating favorable conditions for investment activities, including in free economic zones, privatization of state enterprises, as well as possible areas of bilateral cooperation.

The Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia emphasized that his country sees Uzbekistan as a key partner in Central Asia. Confirming the existence of a huge unrealized potential for the development of cooperation, he noted the need to intensify trade relations and investment interaction in sectors of the economy of mutual interest.

Following the talks, a number of agreements were reached, including the organization of a visit to Uzbekistan by a delegation of Malaysian business circles led by the Minister of International Trade and Industry, as well as the consideration of the possibility of implementing joint investment projects.
