The delegation of Uzbekistan took part in the 16th meeting of the Uzbek-German intergovernmental working group on trade and investment, which was held on November 12 in Berlin. The German delegation, at the talks, was headed by the Department Director of the Economics and Energy Ministry Dr. E. Franz.
The parties stated that the visits of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Germany in January of this year and the President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Uzbekistan in May of this year contributed to bringing bilateral economic partnership to a new level.
Following the results of 9 months of 2019, commodity circulation between the two countries grew by 50%. Over the past period of the current year, 20 new companies with participation of the German capital were created on the territory of Uzbekistan, and their total number reached 200 units.
During negotiations and bilateral meetings, the leadership of the Eastern Committee of the German Economy (ECGE), the Federal Association of Small and Medium Businesses and a number of German companies reviewed implementation of the agreements reached at the highest level, as well as agreed on joint steps aimed at strengthening trade-economic relations.
Along with this, with the support of the German Chamber of Commerce (GCC), ECGE and the German-Uzbek Business Council, a Center for German Business will be established in Tashkent in order to support companies in Germany that plan to enter the Uzbek market or are already operating in the republic.
Cooperation in the field of innovation and infrastructure development is intensifying: the German Energy Agency (DENA) will launch a pilot project to improve the energy efficiency of apartment buildings in Nukus. After its successful implementation, the program for introduction of the German energy efficiency technologies will cover other regions of Uzbekistan.
Development of trade relations has a particular priority – together with ECGE, a program will be developed to promote Uzbek industrial products on the German market. In this context, in close cooperation with the German National Institute of Metrology, a program will be implemented over three years to develop a quality infrastructure aimed at reforming the areas of standardization, certification, metrology and accreditation in Uzbekistan.
Besides, during the working group’s meeting, agreements were reached on expanding the activities of the Berlin Economics Research Center, a leading consulting company on economic development, through implementation of new technical and advisory assistance programs to improve the business environment and increase the investment attractiveness of Uzbekistan.
In 2020, cooperation on staff training will be continued and expanded – currently 419 managers of various enterprises of Uzbekistan have already completed internships at German enterprises as part of the German Government Government’s Advanced Management Program.
