How expensive is gasoline in Uzbekistan compared to Kazakhstan?

Retail prices for gasoline in Kazakhstan are much lower than in neighboring countries. This was announced at a government meeting by the country’s Vice Minister of Energy Makhambet Dosmukhambetov, Kazpravda.kz reports.

“Production of gasoline amounted to 3.6 million tons, or 112.5 percent compared to the same period in 2018. The volume of production fully covers the domestic consumption of the country. As of November 11, the average retail price for AI-92 gasoline in Kazakhstan was 148.5 tenge” (3635 soums at the Central Bank rate as of November 12 - ed.), Dosmukhambetov said.

He noted that since July 2019, the volume of gasoline exports amounted to 42.6 thousand tons.

“The situation in the oil market is stable; there is no shortage in the fuel and lubricants market. The volume of production of the main oil products - gasoline, jet fuel, diesel fuel and fuel oil from the beginning of the year amounted to 10.5 million tons with an increase of 10.2 percent compared to the same period in 2018,” the Vice Minister said.

He also stated that retail prices for gasoline in border countries are much higher.

- in Uzbekistan, the price of AI-92 gasoline is 256.6 tenge (6281 soums) per liter (73 percent more expensive than in Kazakhstan); diesel fuel - 212.2 tenge (5164 soums) per liter (11 percent more expensive);

- in Kyrgyzstan, the price of AI-92 gasoline is 219.9 tenge per liter (48 percent more expensive than in Kazakhstan); diesel fuel - 250.8 tenge per liter (31 percent more expensive);

- in the Russian Federation, the price of AI-92 gasoline is 261.33 tenge per liter (72 percent more expensive than in Kazakhstan); diesel fuel - 284.8 tenge per liter (48 percent more expensive).
