The Korea Overseas Infrastructure & Urban Development Corporation (KIND), with the assistance of the Agency for the Development of Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) under the Ministry of Finance, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Uzbekistan, and the Ministry of Innovative Development, organized a Roundtable on Cooperation on PPP and Infrastructure of Uzbekistan and Korea on November 4, 2019, the Finance Ministry said.
The event was attended by representatives of various ministries and departments of the republic, as well as Korean organizations and companies interested in PPP projects.
At the roundtable, experts from KIND presented an overview of the global market and prospects for PPPs, case studies and the achievements of such partnerships in Korea, and the future plans of KIND in Uzbekistan.
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) representatives made a presentation on PPP projects supported by them and a road construction plan in Uzbekistan.
The Ambassador of Korea to Uzbekistan, Kang Jae Kwon, in his opening speech stressed that this event will be a good opportunity for further development of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Korea in the field of infrastructure construction.
Director of the PPP Development Agency Golib Kholjigitov said that starting from this event, cooperation between Uzbekistan and Korea will expand. In addition, collaboration between the PPP Agency and KIND will be developed taking into account the memorandum of understanding being prepared for signing between the two organizations.
The event participants were given the opportunity to learn more about PPPs in Korea and PPP initiatives in Uzbekistan in the fields of energy, road transport, telecommunications, healthcare, education, etc.
It should be noted that currently, the PPP Agency, together with ministries and departments, is preparing 15 PPP projects worth $6.8 billion, of which 9 are in the energy sector, 2 are in the transport sector, 3 are in the public utilities sector, 1 is in the healthcare sector.
