According to the State Statistics Committee, in January-September, Uzbekistan imported cars for $257.6 million.
Reportedly, the figure was 56.3% more than in the same period last year.
In general, the growth rate is slowly recovering compared to last year. For example, at the beginning of the year import of foreign cars was almost 4 times higher than the last year, in spring – 2.2 times. It dropped to 67% in early summer, increased up to 72% in August and amounted to 74% in September.
The overall increase in imports is thanks to the ease of importation of expensive foreign-made cars in January – if a car costs $40,000 or more and less than two years have passed since the date of manufacture, then it has been applied a zero-rate duty.
However, from 1 January 2020, the preferential rate of 20% of the customs value of imported cars will be canceled.
Earlier, it was reported that Uzbekistan imported passenger cars for $233.8 million in January-August.
