Volkswagen may organize production of commercial vehicles in Uzbekistan

In accordance with the document signed by the presidents of Uzbekistan and Germany, it was planned to organize the production of commercial vehicles in our country together with Volkswagen.

According to Kun.uz source at the JSC Uzavtosanoat, Volkswagen Caddy, Volkswagen Crafter, Volkswagen Tiguan and Skoda Octavia models were chosen for production in Uzbekistan.

“Following the negotiations on May 22, models were selected for production together with Volkswagen. These include Caddy 5 (a 7-seater minivan convenient for carrying passengers), Crafter (a van with carrying capacity of up to 5 tons and an 18-seater car), Skoda Octavia and Tiguan C class cars,” the source said.

During the official visit of Uzbekistan Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov to Germany in 2017, the issues of manufacturing Volkswagen Amarok pickup trucks in our country on the basis of JV MAN Auto-Uzbekistan, were considered. The project was planned to be implemented in 2018-2019. 

JV MAN Auto-Uzbekistan is a company producing MAN vehicles in Central Asia, specialized in the transport of goods and passengers. The company was founded in 2009 and is located in Samarkand.

“We started a partnership with Volkswagen six months ago. They have a certain interest in opening an alternative production here. This is consistent with our aspirations for multi-branding, which is our primary goal,” Umidjon Salimov said. 

During his visit to Germany in January 2019, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with leading banks and companies in the country. Among them, there was the leadership of Volkswagen. In turn, the President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier, who visited our country in May this year, supported the start of activities of the German automaker in the Uzbek market.

Despite this, no official statements were made about the construction of the plant.
