World Taekwondo Federation President Chungwon Choue arrives in Uzbekistan

From August 7 to August 10, Tashkent will host the World Taekwondo Cadet Championships, the press service of the WTF Taekwondo Association of Uzbekistan reports.

As noted in the statement, around 550 athletes, aged from 12 to14 will gather in Tashkent to do battle. In all, 64 countries and plus one refugee team will be represented on the mats in the capital’s Universal Sports Hall of the association.

Among the players will be Syrian refugee Mohamad Mahmoud, who is based in Germany and fights in the men -41kg category. He will represent a refugee team that will fight under the WT flag.

To oversee the event, WTF President Chungwon Choue arrived in Tashkent today and was welcomed by the federation officials at the International Airport named after Islam Karimov. 

Speaking to media at the airport, Chungwon Choue said that Tashkent is one of the best candidates for hosting the World Cup.

The championship games kick off tomorrow at 9 am. The opening ceremony is scheduled for 5:00 pm.
