For the first time, a team from Uzbekistan took part in the 5th International Young Chef Olympiad. The world’s biggest culinary competition for student chefs from 50 participating countries was held in Delhi, India.
Organized by the International Institute of Hotel Management (IIHM) in partnership with the International Hospitality Council (IHC) London, the competition was held across four cities – Delhi, Pune, Bengaluru and Kolkata. A cash prize for the winner was $10,000.
Uzbekistan was represented by two chefs of the International Center for Uzbek Culinary Arts. Ahmadjon Khamdamov, chef master of the ICUCA, participated as a mentor while his apprentice and graduate student of the center Ubaydulla Sultonov - as a participant.
The national team of Uzbekistan won the prize in “The best dish of the 1st round” nomination. Ubaydulla Sultonov prepared dishes using shrimp and fish and cooked vegetarian foods.
In addition, during the competition the team presented national dishes - plov, samsa and other national cookies.
