Gafur Rakhimov, an Uzbek businessman and sports administrator, is competing with Serik Konakbayev of Kazakhstan for the post of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) President. The elections, as reported earlier, are being held in Moscow.
To gain favor, Mr. Rakhimov reminded of his achievements as the interim head of the organization prior to the election process.
According to him, the boxing association achieved the following under his chairmanship:
- A New Governance Philosophy focused on Transparency, Efficiency and Respectability;
- Amendments to the organization’s Statutes;
- Gender Equality Reforms;
- Restructured Financial Management model of AIBA;
- Reorganization of AIBA HQ and the appointment of a New Executive Director;
- New Refereeing System;
- Aggressive strategy against doping;
- Sponsorship Opportunities for AIBA;
- Special Fund called “Diversity in Boxing”.
The elections will take place on Nov. 2 – 3.
